Students Design Self-Sustaining Biospheres

The sophomore biology students were given a project which they had to create a self-sustaining closed system called the Biosphere 3. Students had to research and explain how their environment would supply air, water, food, land, minerals, technology, shelter, plants, animals, microorganisms, and human comforts needed to survive inside. Students presented their Biospheres to faculty and were judged on the following criteria: inhabitants ( Biospherians ), location, list of supplies, a blueprint, and a model.
