Collision Repair Helps K-9 Unit
December 7, 2023
The Prospect Police Dept Officer Tory Madsen contacted Wilcox Tech to build a platform for their K9 Shepard to lay on during driving time. A unit that is pre made for the Ford Expedition is very expensive, upwards near $2000. Mr. Sliwinski, a teacher from the Machining Department, was the first to be involved, but soon passed the project along to the collision department who works exclusively with vehicles. The Town of Prospect purchased the 1X1 square tubing metal
to be used to construct the framing of the platform, and Collision Repair students measured and welded the framing together. Plumbing donated short round tubing lengths to be used for stand offs, and Carpentry cut the wood that will be covered with a rubber mat for the top surface. Collision repair sized, welded and painted the assemblies. It is a folding unit as well so storage can be accessed in the SUV. A project well done and completed in collaboration with many trades at Wilcox. The officers are pictured here with Mr. Turcotte, Collision Repair teacher.
K9 stands on the new platform making it much more accessible for long rides.
