Luke Johnston~A Shining Star
On Wednesday May 29, 2019 Wilcox Senior Luke Johnston received The Shining Star Award from the United Way which recognizes active members and volunteers. Associate Director, Diana Reilly stated “I’ve learned over the years that volunteers do not look for recognition, but they deserve it so much.”
The United Way has one student each from Meriden and Wallingford sit on their Board of Directors and fortunately Luke Johnston was one of them. Luke began volunteering at the United Way in 2018 and has continued to do so this year wherever they needed him. He is an active and engaged participant on the Board as well as a participant in Strategic Planning meetings. He coordinated student volunteers for the NFL Bowling event which was a huge help as there is a lot of work involved in coordinating this event and the student volunteers play a very important role that evening.
Luke is also a shining star at Wilcox. He is currently the Senior Class President and is a State officer for SkillsUSA. He understands the importance of volunteer work and participating in the school and town communities. Luke plans on extending his knowledge and involve Junior Class and SkillsUSA members Louie Yeung and Gema Granados so they may continue to volunteer and assist with this program.
“Luke will be a success wherever he goes and we know that he will continue giving back to his community as a great volunteer. He will be missed very much when he leaves for college in the fall.”
