2018 BGC Club Youth of the Year

February 1, 2018

Congratulations Eugene!

BGC Youth of the Year.jpgEugene Zachary Bertrand, a Wilcox Automotive sophomore, has been chosen as the 2018 Meriden Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year. He was nominated in the late summer by staff for his volunteer work at the summer camp where he is a junior counselor and his involvement with their mentoring programs. “I want to make a positive and significant impact in children’s lives” Eugene stated. He is a junior mentor who plays a meaningful role in a young child’s life who do not have positive influences in their lives. Eugene is also a proud member of the Air Force Auxiliary program which he was named Non-commissioned Officer of the Year and is second in command. He is certified in emergency services and conducts missions with the air patrol based at Meriden Markam Airport and also in Rhode Island. Eugene’s involvement at school includes cross country, Skills USA and a member of the audio visual club.

Eugene will be participating in an awards ceremony in the spring at the state capitol where one individual will be chosen to represent Connecticut in Washington, D.C. Eugene lives by the quote “The best way to predict the future is to create it!” by Peter Drucker. We are proud of our Wilcox student, whose future looks bright, and wish him the best of luck representing Meriden in the spring!

Zachary was recently featured in our local newspaper The record Journal. Please click on the link to read more about Zac and his accomplishments.
