ECE English Course~Sample Writings

The English department’s ECE course is four UCONN credits. Prerequisites for acceptance into the course is an “A” average in English III and a STAR GE of a 12+. Instruction in academic writing through interdisciplinary reading. Assignments emphasize interpretation, argumentation, and reflection. Revision of formal assignments and instruction on grammar, mechanics and style. Students should consistently demonstrate College-Ready Skills and Attributes (persisting; managing impulsivity; listening with understanding and empathy; thinking flexibly; thinking about thinking; striving for accuracy; questioning and problem posing; applying past knowledge to new situations; thinking and communicating with clarity and precision; gathering data through all senses; creating, imagining and innovating; responding with wonderment and awe; taking responsible risks; finding humor; thinking interdependently; remaining open to continuous learning).
The year-long topic of inquiry is Identity in Ms. Amman’s ECE course, currently students are exploring Dis/Ability and Identity. Last week, students were fortunate to enjoy presentations by Orthotic Prosthetic Practitioner Ray Lavigne and Freedom Guide Dog Trainers Karen and Bob Bass.
