Student travels London, England

October 7, 2016

This summer freshman student Emily Cabanas had the opportunity to travel with the Girl Scouts to London, England for sixteen days. Arriving on June 28th, Emily stayed with an English family for 3 days in their home. On the second day there the girls enjoyed an amusement park called “Adventure Island” which Emily stayed was like our Lake Compounce.

After enjoying the culture and time with new friends Emily was off to camp at the “Essex International Jamboree,” where scouts from around the world would come and camp.  With over 100 different activities in 30 zones, from abseiling to zorbing, participants had the unique opportunity to true something new, create lasting memories and make international friendships. Under the Jamboree theme ‘Our Changing World’, young people gained awareness about the global community and showcased everything that is best about Scouting and Guiding.

The last day of the jamboree Emily said her goodbyes to new English friends and went on a bus to her hotel in London, England. Emily and her scouts were tourists who were able to visit Big Ben, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Platform 9 3/4, The Crown Jewels, The London Bridge, The Tower of London, and even more!

Emily left London on August 10th, and got back on that same day in Connecticut in time for her birthday. Emily said she had an amazing experience and tried some new foods and was glad that she met new people and still is in contact with them.

What did you do this summer?
